This EP receives an extremely limited release seeing the band dive headlong into a mash up of different sounds, from the tropical melancholy of operner Fax Of Death to the robo-math rock jitter of No Pirates Left, held together by vocal duet Martin Sakutu & Bob Tollast.

New on Domino sub-label Double Six comes this splendid album from sextet The Laurel Collective, a band who hark back to the heady days of Britpop, whilst referencing certain more multicultural aspects of '80s pop. 'International Love Affair' has a bit of a Duran Duran-style verse, all pseudo-funk rhythms and strident bass riffing, before the song eventually erupts into a glossy chorus. After non-starter 'Gun Mouth' the band quite sensibly drop their single 'Vuitton Blues' your way, carrying a bit of a ska influence but ultimately keeping to a strong, poppy blueprint. You get the feeling that the synthesizer might be a little bit surplus to requirements over the course of this album, but it proves its worth during the breakdown sequences when the rest of the band seem a bit short on ideas. There's enough going on here to warrant your interest, but there's a definite lack of focus and vision - the sort of qualities that might separate a band from the droves of other indie clones out there. That said, The Laurel Collective know enough about deploying a chorus to get them by, and while instrumentally there's not much in the way of dynamics, this short, if not snappy album isn't without its charms.
