Animal Collective roars at Mr. Smalls with mostly new material

Ambient-experimental titans Animal Collective played to a packed Mr. Smalls Theater Wednesday evening, giving an animated performance dominated by new but familiar work to an eager crowd. The Baltimore-born, Brooklyn-residing quartet, which took the indie music world by storm with 2009's "Merriweather Post Pavilion," stayed true to most of the recipe that brought the group enormous acclaim.
