Marquee: The Breeders

"Cannonball" won't be eligible for induction into the Bassline Hall of Fame until 2013, but it's a first-ballot shoo-in. On their way to birthing the infectious alt-rock radio staple, the Breeders married the ethereal grooves of shoegaze (a la Tanya Donelly's Throwing Muses) with the furious smarts of indie pop (a la Kim Deal's Pixies).
