Campfire Classics arrives as a first venture into English-language songs for Welsh rockers Sibrydion, who've thus far developed something of a cult following thanks to a string of releases in their native tongue. Cian Ciaran from Super Furry Animals helps out with the production, which brings out the band's tendencies towards retro pop and spaghetti western soundtracks. 'Coupe De Grace' sounds like a Cardiff-based Last Shadow Puppets, while the likes of 'Shangri-La' and 'Praying For Rain' really don't sound like anyone else at all - the former is a jaunty re-imaginging of blissful '6os pop, while on the latter, the band throw harpsichord, rasping fuzz and nylon-strung guitars into the mix, resulting in a high energy, summery blast of colour. A
beguiling and joyful thing, Campfire Classics is very much in the heritage of Welsh touchstones like Gorky's and the Super Furries. Very good indeed.
